Providing funds for medical services in remote underdeveloped areas

In agreement with the World Bank, the Hong Kong China Foundation proposed it would raise the 20% matching funds on behalf of the local people to fully activate the World Bank funds for these projects. For every dollar raised by the Foundation, the World Bank will provide a fund of US$1 for educational purpose, US$4 for basic health care services, and US$5 for environmental protection.

In 2000, the first group of three clinics was built in Gansu Province with a matching fund of US$100,000 donated by the Charles B. Wang Foundation in New York and the funds of US$500,000 from the World Bank. The Foundation also received from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation a generous two-year grant of US$2,000,000 and the funds of US$8,000,000 from the World Bank. As a result, nearly one hundred clinics have been built in the remote rural areas, effectively improve the health care services in the vicinity. The medical facilities supported the funds from the Hong Kong China Foundation have ensured these clinics to function effectively.

The services in these remote and poor areas in the 13 provinces have directly benefited the people and shown successful results.
